How to Enable Support for Advanced Power Management (APM) BIOS on Laptops

Fedora repo supports a wide variety for desktop, server and laptop rpm packages. One of them is APMD rpm package. APMD is a set of programs for controlling the Advanced Power Management daemon and utilities found in most modern laptop computers.

APMD can watch your notebook's battery and warn users when the battery is low. APMD is also capable of shutting down the PCMCIA sockets before a suspend. Not evey laptops supports advanced power management features. You might ask your stores when purchasing laptops if you wish to have APMD features from your laptop.

WARNING !!! Install apmd package only if you need to control the APM system on your laptop and your laptop supports the same feature as well.

APMD Installation on Fedora

To install APMD rpm package, simply launch yum installer like so

# yum -y apmd
