Once in a while, we search the web for new tools and linux project that we can use and be more productive and effective with our daily server and desktop activities.
Here's another linux X utility that we can make use on doing X file management.
Thunar software aims to provide a simple, fast and easy to use alternative file manager.
Thunar is a new modern file manager for the Xfce Desktop Environment. Thunar also works with GNOME and KDE. Thunar has been designed from the ground up to be fast and easy-to-use. Its user interface is clean and intuitive, and does not include any confusing or useless options. Thunar is fast and responsive with a good start up time and directory load time. Thunar is accessible using Assistive Technologies and is fully standards compliant.
Beside the basic file management features, Thunar includes additional features that set it ahead of other file managers available for the Unix/Linux desktop today. For example, Thunar includes a so called Bulk Renamer that allows users to easily rename multiple files at once using criterions that can be specified using the available renamer plugins. Probably the most interesting renamer here is the Audio Tags renamer, which generates new file names based on the tags.
Installation
Thunar is included with Fedora repositories. Thunar installation cab done in Fedora via yum.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
# yum -y install Thunar
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Once you launched thunar binary, you will noticed that thunar launches amazingly fast. Thunar accesses files and redraws from screen extremenly fast. Thunar user interface creates a simple environment for file management daily X task.
