HowTo: Rename Multiple Files Without A Script
Today, from my old post, I just found out that Thunar File Manager package comes with a Bulk Rename module. This X-based Thunar Bulk Rename application is available upon successful installation of Thunar File manager. Thunar File Manager refers to it as Bulk Rename - Rename multiple files from your X .
This /usr/libexec/ThunarBulkRename Thunar module can rename files using your GNOME or KDE. This module can easily be accessed from Application > System Tools .
The Bulk Renameing process and operation is straight and simple.
From below window, simply Add and Select files for operation by hitting the plus (+) sign.
From the below screenshot, you will see several selected files shown at the leftpane of the window. Moving down below are more options. Try choosing INSERT and TEXT. This is the area wherein you will insert additional file names you wish to be added, inserted, appended or overwrite to those selected files from the left pane.
This bulk file renamer also offers numerical approach of renaming bulk files as well. You can insert or append a string of text into the selected files and your sample filename result will be shown from the right pane. Absolute renaming of files by column position is also an additional option by this Thunar bulk renamer module.
If you are satisfied with the filename results shown from the right most pane of the application's window, simply click the Rename button to make it permanently.
If you wish to rename multiple files from command line (CLI), see the basic, the recent post, and more related readings.
Enjoy!
